On the Road Again, Welaka, Florida to Jackson, Georgia

We are on the road again heading north for the summer. With all the preparation projects completed, we decided to leave Lazy Days earlier than planned. The intense heat was making us look northward. We compared our temps to the ones at Victoria Campground near Bill and found that while it was still hot up there, a few degrees less with a little less humidity sounded good along with the nicely shaded campground there, so we added time to our reservations there and hit the road. We'll also have more time to visit with family and see our sweet great grandson. 

Most of the projects were regular maintenance on the truck and camper. We did only a couple of repair and improvement projects. We added an 8' awning over our large windows above the sofa in the slide out to help with heat intrusion. I had to help with that one, but it turned out not to be as difficult a project as we expected, and it's really nice to be able pull it down when the sun shines on that side.

The repair project was putting a new top on our stove. Last fall, Ed turned a burner on before lifting our glass stove cover causing the glass to shatter. The cover alone couldn't be replaced so we had to buy the complete stove top. We could have lived without the cover, but it also serves as a backsplash keeping splatters from hitting the window and wall behind the stove when it's folded up. Of course, the new stovetop didn't fit exactly so Ed had to trim the exhaust chimneys down to make it fit, but now it's good as new.

We got on the road moving slowly, less than 200 miles a day, since the rig hasn't been on the road in quite some time and to just enjoy some stops along the way. First stop, Reed Bingham State Park near Adel, Georgia.

 

Stayed here before--nice, flat sites with good shade.

And a beautiful lake on our morning walk.

Next stop was High Falls State Park near Jackson, Georgia for two nights for some short hikes near the falls. Very nice shady campground.

After our second hike, we had to take a side trip to the AT&T store at Locust Grove, Georgia. I had set Ed's phone on the truck bumper when we were setting up and told him it was there, but he said he didn't understand what I was saying. It fell off when we drove to one of the trailheads. Find My Phone helped us find it in the road, but it had been run over completely shattering the glass and rendering it useless although he could still answer and make calls using Siri. It was an old iPhone SE so it seemed a good time to get a new phone. I learned my lesson, though, no phones on bumpers anymore. We lived on a boat for 13 years and not once did we drop one overboard, but on land, I guess we are more careless than we were on the boat.

We'll continue on north with most of our time this summer spent in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are very much looking forward to some cooler  We brought along our InReach we used on the boat so you can see where we are as we move along if you wish.  https://share.garmin.com/whatif
